COVID Crisis in India
Our Relief Agencies Are Accepting Donations
Both Canadian Lutheran World Relief and the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund are working with their partners to provide needed emergency assistance to help with the COVID crisis in India.
Information from the Canadian Lutheran World Relief website:
As a member of the Humanitarian Coalition, Canadian Lutheran World Relief is appealing for funds to provide emergency assistance to people in need in India.
Humanitarian Coalition members are already actively responding to the crisis by supporting the healthcare system with oxygen, ventilators, field hospitals and PPE, promoting COVID vaccination and safe hygiene practices, and ensuring food security and basic survival for vulnerable families.
Through our local ACT Alliance partners in India, CLWR is prepared to respond immediately with the support of Lutherans in Canada. Donation to this emergency appeal will help provide emergency medical support to those forced to be sick at home, ensure access to vaccines and medical supplies for the most vulnerable, and help support critical advocacy and public awareness efforts to keep as many people safe as possible.
Information from the Primate’s World Development and Relief Fund website:
PWRDF is now accepting donations to support India as it struggles with the current COVID-19 outbreak. While Canada faces its own challenges and grief over COVID-19, the images and stories of mass deaths, blackmarket oxygen tanks and parking lot crematoria are shocking and heartbreaking.
Several fellow ACT members in the region – some former PWRDF partners – are working night and day to provide emergency services and relief, including the Church’s Auxiliary for Social Action (CASA).
PWRDF’s Humanitarian Response Coordinator Naba Gurung has been in regular contact with CASA and the ACT India Forum. “A global coordination call has been scheduled for May 3 where CASA and other ACT members from India will share their update with the rest of the Alliance.”
