2022 ELCIC National Convention
“Let There Be Greening”
Held Online July 15th to 16th
Following prayerful consideration at its March 2022 meeting, the ELCIC’s National Church Council made the decision to hold the 2022 ELCIC National Convention as a virtual online gathering to conduct essential business of the church and to hold a special in-person convention in 2023 to allow time for a fuller gathering experience. The full announcement of this decision can be read here. Based on the ELCIC Administrative Bylaws, delegates to the regular convention will also be delegates to the special convention in 2023.
The Theme
The theme of the 2022 ELCIC National Convention is, “Let There Be Greening.” This theme is based around Revelation 22: 1-2, “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.”
From the letter to delegates, visitors, and guests to the National Convention from National Bishop Susan Johnson found in the introduction of the Bulletin of Reports:
Our convention theme this year, Let There Be Greening, underlines our Easter hope for our church, our world, and the creation.
This is our first ever online convention. This year we will only be doing the necessary business that we are legally required to do. We will hear reports from the outgoing National Church Council. We will elect new officers, members of National Church Council, and the Court of Appeal. And we will pass a budget for the next three years. All of the recommendations coming in the Report of the National Church Council we will hold until next year when we can meet in person.
It is also the first convention where we have set a goal of 20% participation of delegates in the age range of 16–30. We know we are doing this during the challenging times of pandemic. We will keep working towards this goal.
Please join us in praying for our church as we prepare to meet in National Convention. May God bless you!
