And so Lent begins. Some of us gathered last night for pancakes, sausages, and desserts. It was a good time with good folks and good food, but today those things are a memory and Lent has begun.
We will not gather this evening for the usual Ash Wednesday liturgy. That is too bad because it is a rich and marvellous symbol of our faith. But, do not despair, you will have your chance to participate in this ancient ritual – this Sunday we will offer the imposition of ashes for those who wish it. The worship will begin with a litany of penitence and the imposition of ashes from the Book of Alternative Services (Anglican).
